What The Heck Does "Numismatic" Mean??

This was one of the first questions I asked when I was starting out in precious metals. I kept hearing about it in YouTube videos. Someone would hold up two silver coins and point to one and say "this one is worth more than this one because it's a numi". HUH? A numi? What the what. So began my search for information on the word numismatic. I could get into a lengthy long explanation and try to come off as an expert (which I am not, at least not yet ;) ) , but I would rather give you a quick explanation. Numismatic is when a coin has a higher value than the spot price. Now the coin could have a low mintage, maybe its really, really old and was pulled from the bottom of the Bermuda Triangle or it could have an interesting history attached to it. Personally I don't do a lot of purchasing of oldie but goodies when it comes to coins. I prefer the newer shiny stuff. SO most of the modern coins I come across with a high price are because of  numismatic value and they are considered "numi's" because the mintage numbers are really low, limited and graded.

Semi Numismatic? Oh boy. So from what I have gleaned from the silver community on YouTube is that, well how can I say this....ummm yeah , lots of people don't agree on this term. Lots of mixed feelings about this one. I'm not gonna even go there.

So who are these YouToobers I'm following learning from? Well here is just a few. Check 'em out and hey, maybe subscribe! Join the club :)

2013 West Point Two Coin Silver Set!

2013 American Silver Eagle / West Point Two Coin Silver Set

The US Mint is releasing a new set and the price is a bit of a discussion on Facebook. I guess number of sales will show if the premium was too high or not.

2012 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set

The U.S. Mint has this wonderful silver proof set and it is on my wish list! Looks like this set has a limited mintage of  50,000. A very popular pick with coin collectors. YouTube already has a few videos with folks sharing their set. The Limited Edition set comes with 1/ American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin, 5/ Quarters from the America The Beautiful Quarters Program, 1 Kennedy half-dollar and 1/ Roosevelt dime. So eight pieces total. What I like about this set is the over all  look of the packaging and the case it all comes in. Oh! the 5/quarters if your wondering are the El Yunque National forest (PR), Chaco National Historical Park (NM), Acadia National Park (Maine), Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park and Denali National Park (AL).  If you would like more info on this exquisite set you can find it at usmint.gov.

2013 Chinese Silver Panda

The 2013 Chinese Silver Panda is a beautiful coin. I wanted to learn more about it and it's history so I went right over to wikipedia! This is what I found. 8,000,000 coins were minted for 2013. The first silver panda was minted in 1983 as a proof and frosted proof. On the obverse side is the Temple of Heaven and the reverse side is of course why people love these coins, the pandas. This is my first panda. What year was yours?

Silver Stacking (Ag)

Who doesn't love the "clink" "clink" sound of silver coins toppling over one another on a stack.  Here are some pictures I took of my recent coin haul. Let me know what you think. 2005 American Eagle. 1oz of fine silver. 90% half dollars. A Walking Liberty and a Barber half. What was your first coin?
